Mike McConnell to rejoin Booz Allen

| |

National security expert Mike McConnell will rejoin Booz Allen as senior vice president upon the completion of his service as Director of National Intelligence.

A Vietnam veteran, McConnell served 29 years in the Navy before retiring in 1996 as a vice admiral. Upon his retirement, McConnell joined Booz Allen where he became senior vice president, then left in 2006 when former President Bush asked him to become the Director of National Intelligence.

McConnell will remain in that role until the Senate confirms his successor, and will then return to Booz Allen. President Obama has asked McConnell to continue to serve by accepting a position on his President Intelligence Advisory Board, which advises the president on intelligence matters.

Bill Studeman, a retired Admiral of the United States Navy and former Deputy Director of the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency, gives McConnell high marks for his work as DNI. Among McConnell’s achievements, notes Studeman, is to provide better integration of intelligence community and Department of Defense communications infrastructure. He also credits McConnell with restructuring the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to better deal with the full spectrum of intelligence community responsibilities, particularly the addition of the Deputy Director National Intelligence for acquisition.
