Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) has announced that it has acquired Atlan Inc., a cybersecurity product testing firm. Atlan is a leading provider of Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 and 201 validations.
“The addition of Atlan’s FIPS testing capabilities enhances SAIC’s overall cybersecurity capabilities as well as our portfolio of Common Criteria, FIPS, and SCAP testing services,” said Larry Cox, SAIC’s senior vice president and business unit general manager. “The combined personnel and testing resources of SAIC and Atlan will help strengthen our position in the government cybersecurity product certification market.”
The FIPS standards are issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for U.S. government computer security and are used to certify cryptographic modules. Atlan is a leader in evaluation information technology security products against the FIPS standards. The certification and testing of these cryptographic modules is needed for the modules that collect, store, or otherwise come in contact with sensitive, but un-classified information from the U.S. Federal Government and regulated industries such as financial and healthcare institutions.
Atlan is also certified to carry out FIPS 201 validations, which is obligatory for key technology solutions operating within the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) settings.
Atlan’s employees will join the company’s Intelligence and Information Solutions Business Unit which is led by Larry Cox.
