Who’s Alan Carlin? You probably haven’t heard of him, and CBS claims that’s the way the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) wants it. Dr. Carlin, who holds a Bachelor’s in physics from CalTech and a Ph.D in economics from MIT, wrote what the Heritage Foundation called a “damaging report” questioning the science behind the green movement’s dire predictions. Carlin’s report suggests that the congressionally proposed “Cap-and-Trade” bill will hurt American families and American economic competitiveness while having negligible impact on global ecology. So, many folks are wondering “what is the truth and who are the truthers?”
The EPA has effectively suppressed Carlin’s report, which was released over four months ago. Carlin was restricted on the grounds that, despite his advanced educational qualifications, he is unqualified to write on the subject of climate change.
The EPA’s gag order on Carlin extends to writing and speaking engagements on the subject of climate change. The EPA also barred him from attending any meetings addressing his principal responsibility (climate change), and reassigned him to updating a grants database. What’s in the report? Here are some highlights:
- Global temperatures have declined…extending the current downtrend to 11 years…At the same time, atmospheric CO2 levels have continued to increase.
- The idea that warming temperatures will cause Greenland to rapidly shed its ice has been greatly diminished…
- A new 2009 paper finds that the crucial assumption…concerning positive feedback from water vapor is not supported by empirical evidence and that feedback is actually negative.
- A new 2009 paper by Scafetta and West suggests that the IPCC used faulty solar data in dismissing the effect of solar variability on global temperatures…solar variability could account for up to 68% of the increase in Earth’s temperature.
