Navy IT Plan Highlights Role of Cybersecurity

In the Navy’s recently announced IT plan for the 2010 fiscal year, CIO Robert Carey outlined some of the key areas of focus, including increased cybersecurity, more use of Web 2.0 and network architecture planning.

One of Carey’s key focuses is on ensuring the Navy’s networks are secure.

The Navy is looking to significantly reduce the number of data breaches involving personal information by encrypting data, not storing as much personally identifying information and halting the use of login names and passwords to access unclassified networks.

The plan also calls for better and more thorough cyber security assessments and improved collaboration by using more Web 2.0 applications.
