Joseph S. Nye joined Chertoff Group’s board of advisers in March 2010. He is currently a university distinguished service professor at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Nye has served as deputy to the U.S. under secretary of state for security assistance, science and technology; chair of the National Security Council Group on Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons; chair of the National Intelligence Council and assistant secretary of defense.
In recognition of his service, he received the highest Department of State commendation, the Distinguished Honor Award. He also was awarded the Intelligence Community’s Distinguished Service Medal and a Distinguished Service Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster.
Nye received his bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from Princeton University, did postgraduate work at Oxford University on a Rhodes scholarship and earned a doctorate degree in political science from Harvard.
