Peter Smith was announced Chief Operating Officer of AMERICAN SYSTEMS in January 2010. During his involvement with the company for 30 years, he is recognized as a leader in the application of open systems technology and development of holistic solutions for customer needs.
Smith began his career with AMERICAN SYSTEMS in 1980 at their Rhode Island office. There, he worked his way up from test engineer for submarine and surface ship systems to director of the company’s Monitoring and Information Transfer Systems Doctorate. Later, he received recognition for his expertise during his time as director of engineering.
As Chief Operating Officer, Smith oversees business development and directs the company’s strategic business plans. He is a leader in the completion of project missions and has been a valuable asset to the company’s advancement of customer programs related to the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, and Department of State. He is listed under AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ “Leadership Team”. He has also been an employee-owner representative on the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) Administration Committee since 2004.
Before he began his career with American Systems, Smith received his B.S. in Physics from University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University.
