Joe Kopfman serves as vice president of contracts and administration and chief compliance officer for AMERICAN SYSTEMS. As such, he leads the company’s ethics program, manages the contracts, legal, purchasing, pricing, mergers and acquisition, security, facilities, and general administration support departments within the company.
In an interview with ExecutiveBiz, Kopfman shed light on his responsibilities as VP.
“I’m the head of our acquisition council; that’s always been the favorite part of my job,” he said. “I like the process of getting to know small companies and nurturing the relationship with an eye towards possibly merging at some point. I also enjoy weeding thorough the property put in play by the investment bankers.”
Kopfman joined AMERICAN SYSTEMS in 1978, and has since held various leadership roles within the government and commercial contracting businesses.
The 35-year company veteran also serves as the the chairman of AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ ethics committee, a position he has held since 2006.
Kopfman was named one of ExecutiveBiz’s “Top Contracts Execs to Watch in Government Contracting” in 2009.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Radford University. He is a member of National Contracts Management Association and is active in the Professional Services Council.
