Kundra: Federal Government Looking to Make Progress on IT Gap
Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra cited the existing IT gap between the private sector and the federal government as a hindrance to an improvement in government efficiency.
In response to the problem, Kundra wrote a blog post to lay out the steps being taken by the Obama administration to reel in the IT and cybersecurity tech discrepancy.
“As we head into summer, agencies are hard at work preparing their budget submissions for Fiscal Year 2012,” he said. “Earlier this week, we issued budget guidance for agencies as they develop the FY2012 budget. The guidance includes several key actions for agencies to take in the areas of IT project management, IT infrastructure and cybersecurity that will help us close the IT gap.”
Agencies will be made to review IT investment portfolios ahead of the FY 2012 budget deadline. Cloud-computing solutions and data-center consolidation will need to be assessed as the plan moves forward.Agencies must also include funding for plans to consolidate data centers developed in FY 2010. Budget proposals must also include funding for IT systems monitoring cost.
“We won’t close the IT gap overnight – but these actions represent important steps in the journey towards a more efficient government that performs for the American people,” Kundra said.

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, this is fantastic blog. A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.
