Leo Apotheker, former CEO of tech company SAP, will be the new president and CEO of Hewlett-Packard.
Apotheker spent 19 years with German company SAP, the last two years as its chief executive. During the period from 2004 to 2009, he helped lead the company to 18 consecutive quarters of growth in software revenue.
HP lead independent director of the board Robert Ryan said Apotheker was chosen because of his international experience and success in the U.S. market.
“Leo is a strategic thinker with a passion for technology, wide-reaching global experience and proven operational discipline – exactly what we were looking for in a CEO,” he said. “After more than two decades in the industry, he has a strong track record of driving technological innovation, building customer relationships and developing world-class teams.”
Apotheker will start in his role Nov. 1, taking over from interim CEO Cathie Lesjak, who will return to her former role of HP CFO.
