Nonprofit group iHealth Alliance has launched EHRevent.org: a national database where physicians and other healthcare providers can report issues related to use or implementations of electronic health records.
The information tabulated by the database will be used by the FDA and other government agencies to educate healthcare providers about more efficient, issue-free implementation. FDA also hopes to use these reports to minimize medical errors potential errors in EHRs.
The reporting system was modeled after a similar one used by the aviation industry and will have sections about software, training and security.
“We applaud the efforts of the iHealth Alliance to help assure the safety of EHRs,” said Dr. Jeffrey Shuren, director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health. “We look forward to working with the iHealth Alliance to encourage physicians and EHR vendors to report information on their experiences with electronic health records to EHRevent and other appropriate reporting systems.”
