Verizon announced today the National Association of Female Executives named the communications firm to the 2011 NAFE Top 50 Companies and 10 Nonprofits for Executive Women.
NAFE, an association for women business owners and professionals, seeks to advance women in business through education, networking opportunities and advocacy campaigns. The Top 50 Companies list spotlights organizations that exhibit policies and procedures that support NAFE’s goals.
In compiling the list, NAFE looked at corporations that employ a minimum of two women on its board of directors and have at least 500 U.S. employees. Female representation in the company, hiring and promotion rates of women were examined, as well as mentoring, coaching and networking programs. The ranking process also considered company culture, management training and accountability.
“Verizon offers succession planning and high-potential identification programs that are moving women into top positions,” said Dr. Betty Spence, NAFE president. “NAFE congratulates Verizon on ensuring that they tap their female talent, the mark of a NAFE Top Company.”
According to Verizon, women account for 40 percent of its global workforce and 30 percent of the company’s leadership positions. The company previously received recognition from Latina Style for being a best company for Latinas, and Working Mother magazine for best company for working mothers.
