Management solutions leader Symantec Corp. has received Acterra’s 2011 Business Environmental Award for its devotion to large-company environmental sustainability. The company was honored for its contributions to promoting eco-friendly awareness at the 2011 Business Environmental Awards Reception, held June 2 at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel in Palo Alto, Calif.
Symantec was applauded for its model program that encompasses all three tenants of sustainability: Business processes, environment and social equity.
“Thanks to thoroughly integrated, solid and well-documented sustainability frameworks, processes and global programs, Symantec Corporation has mastered a rare achievement: It has successfully managed to fully embed sustainability into its business,” said Christine Kohl-Zaugg, judging committee chair, Business Environmental Awards. “A new leader in the sustainability arena, Symantec Corporation is a company to learn from.”
Considered one of San Francisco’s most prestigious environmental recognition programs, competition for Acterra’s Business Environmental Award involves an intensive application and judging process, insisting applicants demonstrate how their corporate businesses play an active role in environmental leadership. With programs such as green IT, greenhouse gas commitment, LEED-certified green buildings and committed green teams, Kohl-Zaugg said Symantec deserves Acterra’s top honor.
