URS Corporation has been awarded a contract from Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative Inc. The company will provide Hoosier with an upgrade to the present fuel gas desulfurization systems at Hoosier Energy’s Merom Generating Station in Indiana, with plans for completion by the summer of 2013.
URS Corp. has provided the Merom Generating Station with engineering services since May 2009, establishing a relationship that URS believes will be further developed with the new contract, valued at $113 million.
The company expects its large indefinite delivery contracts with the Defense Department, as well as new opportunities with the Energy Department, to benefit its federal sector this year, particularly because it is not dependent on any single contract on an ongoing basis.
Significant funding for O&M programs, which signifies increased opportunities to support long-term DoD initiatives and stable funding for the Energy Department’s environmental and nuclear programs, including the National Nuclear Security Administration, are also working in URS Corp.’s favor.
