“Without question, U.S. is the world leader in cloud computing, said Dan Reed, corporate vice president of Microsoft Corp.’s technology policy group in an interview with San Francisco Gate. “The U.S. needs to create an environment in which U.S. companies can remain leaders in this space.”
VCE, which was founded by Cisco Systems Inc. and EMC Corp., co-led the report and found U.S. leadership is dependent on earning the trust of current and potential cloud users. It also found that security is among the top concerns in preventing cloud adoption in the public sector.
The report says cloud services are not inherently more or less secure than agency networks. Senior Vice President of the global public sector of salesforce.com Dan Burton said security for the cloud has to be assessed and that the issue can be addressed in cloud contracts between providers and the government.
