Norton by Symantec today released Norton Anti-Theft, a Web-service allowing consumers to remotely lock and locate lost or stolen Windows-based laptops and Android smartphones and tablets. The offering supports the Norton Everywhere initiative to extend security technologies to consumers on every device, everywhere.
A recent survey by Norton showed that 78 percent of consumers were concerned with losing information on personal devices and 72 percent indicated that once a phone was lost or stolen, they would make an effort to retrieve their device. Half of those seeking a lost device would prefer to have control over location and locking the device themselves.
“Laptops, smartphones and tablets have become more personal than ever because consumers can take them wherever they go,” said Dave Cole, vice president of mobile products at Norton. “However, the convenience of mobility also brings the risk of theft or accidental loss, so safeguards need to be in place. Norton Anti-Theft allows consumers to take defensive measures in preparing for the worst case scenario and proactive measures when an unfortunate incident occurs.”
