Verizon and VMware Form Partnership Giving Android Users One Device for Work and Home

Some Android users will be gaining additional features after an announcement confirmed Verizon and VMware are teaming up to commercially introduce VMware Horizon Mobile, which will enable Verizon Wireless business subscribers to use a single Android device for both professional and personal use.

VMware said Horizon Mobile will provide a simple way for IT departments to wirelessly provision, manage and de-provision a corporate mobile workspace with email, applications and data to an employee’s Android device.

The company said it would still allow the employee to retain the privacy and control of their personal mobile environments.

“Mobile devices are fast becoming the primary way people stay connected at work and in their personal lives,” said Steve Herrod, chief technology officer and senior vice president of research and development at VMware.  “Our partnership with Verizon to deliver VMware Horizon Mobile will let companies embrace the ‘bring your own device’ trend by providing the security and control required by the enterprise with the freedom of choice sought by employees.”

VMware Horizon Mobile will still be able to access and leverage the more than 250,000 applications available on the Android Market. Solutions using VMware Horizon Mobile are expected to be available on Verizon Wireless smartphones in the coming months.
