Harris Corporation’s Karen Sledge, vice president, controller, Broadcast Communications Systems, has been featured in Profiles in Diversity Journal’s 10th annual list of Women Worth Watching. She is one of the total 131 business representatives recognized based on employer nominations.
The September/October 2011 issue of the magazine featured an essay from Sledge as well as other recognized leaders on their personal leadership journey successes in an attempt to advance women into the leadership spot and encourage aspiring business leaders. In her essay, Sledge discusses goal-driven risk-taking and said that, “there is an art to this kind of risk-taking, one that is grounded in a clear sense of how you want to advance in your career.”
“Karen represents the exceptional leadership qualities that are key to making Harris a success, and we salute her achievements as well as those of the many other successful women professionals at Harris,” said Jeff Shuman, senior vice president, chief human resources and administrative officer, Harris Corporation.
In her current position, Sledge oversees strategic planning, financial reporting and forecasting, as well as internal controls for the Harris Broadcast Communications Systems business. She was previously vice president of finance at Avaya. She also spent more than 20 years at Nortel Networks, where she gained global financial expertise. She has bachelor’s in business administration from Baylor University and a master’s in business administration from the University of Texas at Dallas.
