A local police department in Minnesota will use analytics software from IBM to assist in police prevention and investigative programs, IBM announced Wednesday.
The Rochester Police Department will use incident patterns produced by the software to forecast crime hot spots and allocate resources. IBM’s InfoSphere Identity Insight software is used to determine the identity of a person and identify the person’s relationships.
IBM said Alpine Consulting Inc. will provide an analytics platform that uses IBM’s smarter cities platform.
“One of the most effective ways to reduce crime in cities is to apply analytics technology to public safety to identify crime patterns,” said Mark Cleverley, IBM director of global public safety.
