The U.S. Navy has awarded SAIC Inc. a $10,647,009 contract modification for the Deep Sea Operations Program, the Pentagon announced Thursday.

The modification brings the total contract value to an estimated $12,199,237.

During the contract’s 15-month extension, SAIC will work to produce a surveillance system that can detect quiet submarines at deep sea depths.

The Pentagon expects the work to finish by April 11, 2013. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
