IBM’s business partner CitySourced developed the text messaging system for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
School district staff use IBM software to analyze the problem and use business partner Esri’s geographic information software to identify where the problem is.
The school district responded to more than 750 maintenance requests within the first eight months of the program and more than 1,600 to date, according to IBM.
Students and teachers previously submitted reports on faulty equipment to campus plant managers who then reported the issues to the school district’s maintenance and operations service call desk.
IBM also has helped students in Chicago by awarding a competitive grant to raise graduation rates and prepare students for the 21st century workforce.
The company funded the project through its Smarter Cities Challenge.
