Microsoft's Curt Kolcun Announces New Cloud Choice for Agencies

Curt Kolcun

Microsoft is letting its federal customers choose between Office 365 public or private cloud solutions, Microsoft‘s U.S. public sector vice president Curt Kolcun announced Thursday.

Kolcun said in a blog post that cloud comes in a variety of forms for a variety of functions, similar to how agencies use them.

The Agriculture Department moved 120,000 users to Microsoft Online Services but intelligence agencies may want to take a different approach to cloud, Kolcun said.

Agencies are implementing varying levels of cloud services and Kolcun said are only scratching the surface in terms of what they can use to impact workloads.

Kolcun said Microsoft is developing a multitenant, government community cloud to meet Federal Information Security Management Act and Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program requirements.

Kolcun explained Microsoft will develop and evolve its portfolio of cloud offerings as the government cloud requirements continue to evolve.

Kolcun believes a cloud vendor’s job is to offer individual agencies freedom to obtain productivity tools that make the most sense to serve a mission rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution.
