Salesforce.com is offering a new suite of government cloud computing solutions with a focus on social media, the New York Times reports.

The San Francisco-based company is rolling out a new product line, coined Government Cloud, to provide public sector social and mobile technologies.

Executive Vice President Vivek Kundra, the former U.S. chief information officer, said the company is working to connect the general public with the government through social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

He is announcing the company’s new product line Wednesday at the company’s Cloudforce conference in Washington.

The company plans to deploy 1,000 programers to assist with the release of its government partner accelerator program by the end of 2012, according to the report.

Salesforce said its AppExchange for Government will be available starting Wednesday, while other similar software offerings will be released later this year, the Times reported.
