Accenture has won a potential $259 million contract with the California Health Benefit Exchange to develop health coverage eligibility and enrollment systems, the Exchange announced Thursday.
The federal government will provide approximately $183 million for initial development and implementation of the system and an additional $176 million could continue system development and initial operations for three and a half years.
Accenture will develop a new web-based California Healthcare Eligibility, Enrollment and Retention System to fulfill requirements under the Affordable Care Act.
The system will be designed to simplify healthcare eligibility and health plan enrollment to the California Health Benefit Exchange; Medi-Cal; and Healthy Families programs.
Scheduled pre-enrollment in health plans is scheduled for Oct. 1, 2013 after the webpage is made live and the Exchange expects coverage for eligible individuals to begin on Jan. 1, 2014.
The Department of Health Care Services and Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board co-sponsored the CalHEERS project.
Accenture was also selected to help the District of Colombia meet federal health insurance exchange deadlines and requirements.
