Bechtel Corp. is relocating its government services business unit, U.S. civil business and global operations headquarters to Reston, Va.
According to Fairfax County, the company is moving 625 jobs from Frederick, Md. to the new location, near Reston Town Center and eight miles from Dulles International Airport.
Bechtel, which bases its corporate headquarters in San Francisco, will lease nearly 300,000 square feet between the One Reston Overlook and Two Reston Overlook buildings.
The company wants closer proximity to domestic and international customers and more transportation options for employees, said Bill Dudley, president and chief operating officer.
Bechtel serves as lead partner of Dulles Transit Partners, the contractor responsible for building phase one of the Dulles Metrorail extension project.
Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) approved $6.5 million in funds to support the move, with $1.5 million coming from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to help Fairfax County and $5 million from the state’s Economic Development Incentive Grant.
Virginia’s Department of Business Assistance will provide funding and services to support the company’s recruitment, training and retraining activities through the state’s Jobs Investment Program.
