Harris Providing Navy Radios For Modernization Program

Harris Corp. will provide multiband handheld radios to the Navy as part of a branch-wide tactical radio modernization effort, the company announced Monday.

The company won the $7 million contract during the third quarter of fiscal year 2012.

Falcon III RF-310M radios are the first and only handheld radios to be certified by the National Security Agency as compatible with Type-1, Suite B encryption.

The Navy is acquiring the radios as part of a modernization effort within the branch’s Expeditionary Combat Command, which supports explosive ordinance disposal and port security forces.

The radios contain programmable encryption technology,cover frequency ranges between 30 and 512 megahertz and interoperate with coalition, public safety and interagency radios.
