Neustar To Continue Running Telephone Number Plan; Steve Edwards Comments

Neustar has won a five-year contract to continue managing a telephone numbering plan for the Federal Communications Commission, the company announced today.

The FCC originally selected the company in 1997 as the neutral North American Numbering Plan administrator.

The company won the new award through an FCC-administered competitive bidding process.

Many telecommunications service providers and their consumers rely on the NANP, said Steve Edwards, senior vice president for carrier services.

The company will coordinate area code relief planning and collect data on service provider utilization.

Including the U.S. and Canada, more than 20 North American countries use the plan

In 2011, the North American Numbering Council, an FCC advisory committee rated the company as exceeding expectations through performance feedback surveys of service providers and regulators, monthly performance reports and observations and an annual operational review.
