Raytheon To Connect Navy, AF Satellites For Polar Communications; Scott Whatmough Comments

Raytheon will connect an Air Force polar satellite with a Navy satellite terminal, the company announced Wednesday.

The company won a $19 million contract to link the Navy Multiband Terminal with the Air Force’s Enhanced Polar Satellite, providing military personnel with communications in the remote polar region.

Navy personnel will use the satellite system for voice, data and video communications, said Scott Whatmough, vice president of integrated communication systems for the network centric systems business.

EPS satellites provide coverage for strategic and tactical communications during peacetime, contingency, homeland defense, humanitarian assistance and wartime missions.

The company has started software and systems engineering modifications to existing NMT ships, submarines and shore terminals for interoperability with EPS satellites.

EPS satellites are replacing the existing Interim Polar System.
