Harris To Install SW Virginia Public Safety Comm System; Steve Marschilok Comments

Harris Corp. has won a contract to design and deploy a public safety communications system for first responders and public works users in Southwestern Virginia, the company announced Monday.

Virginia’s Region 2000 Local Government Council awarded Harris a $11.8 million contract to set up a 14-2ite P25 system for 3,000 first responders and public works users in the region.

Nearly 184,460 residents live in in Bedford and Amherst Counties, the cities of Lynchburg and Bedford and the town of Amherst.

The company will create one integrated solution from what has been three systems, said Steve Marschilok, president for public safety and professional communications.

Harris will use load and traffic analysis to implement the interoperable system.

Also, the company is working with first responders in Miami-Dade County, Fla. in a pilot program to test wireless broadband technology.

The county wants to determine how it can use LTE broadband technology in the future.
