Information technology unemployment rates are half the national average at around 4.4 percent, according to this month’s issue of the Dice Report.

The numbers correlate with the high demand for skilled individuals in the IT field, with certain openings out-accelerating the growth of the IT workforce.

Demand is greatest for well-trained and experienced professionals, with those with at least two to five years in the workforce, followed by those with six to 10 years’ experience, ranking highest among employers.

The report found developers for Java, mobile, .NET and software are the most difficult for employers to find, hire and retain.

The report also stated many IT professionals are now responsible for their own training and hiring managers expect them to stay with their firm about three years, potentially making cross-training, retraining or any training difficult.
