Lockheed Martin Corp. has selected Cobham‘s Thrane & Thrane subsidiary to provide satellite communications components for U.S. Air Force cargo aircraft, Lockheed announced Tuesday.
The communications equipment will support the air traffic management data link component of the block 8.1 upgrade on more than 200 C-130J Super Hercules cargo aircraft.
Thrane & Thrane’s DO178B AVIATOR 700D product will support SwiftBroadband IP data and voice capability, said CEO Walther Thygesen.
The UK, Australia, Italy, Denmark, Canada and Norway will also receive the block 8.1 upgrades, Thrane & Thrane said.
The C-130J Hercules is powered by four Allison AE2100D3 turboprop engines and can accommodate a payload of up to 20 tons, or more than 90 passengers.
