Siemens, Bechtel To Help Power 750K Texas Homes; Roland Fischer Comments

Siemens and Bechtel are partnering to help build a power facility in Texas that will provide electricity to nearly 750,000 homes in Central and North Texas, Siemens announced Wednesday.

Siemens won an estimated $300 million order to provide a turnkey supply for a natural-gas-fired power plant at the Panda Temple Power Project in Temple, Texas.

Power generation begins within ten minutes of startup and full base-load power production starts in less than one hour, said Roland Fischer, CEO of the fossil power generation division at Siemens’ energy business.

Fischer added the company is also increasing investment in intermittent renewable and zero-carbon resources.

Through a $1 billion initiative in Brazil, the company is opening a research and development center in Rio de Janeiro for energy efficiency solutions.

The company will deliver the power island equipment including two gas turbines, one steam turbine, three generators and the instrumentation and control system.

Bechtel will be responsible for engineering and procurement, as well as installing, constructing and commissioning of the facility, scheduled to become operational in 2014.

Panda Temple Power purchased the Siemens Flex-Plant 30, a generating station with a 758 megawatt-installed electrical capacity.

The Siemens Flex-Plant emits less than 10 parts-per-million carbon monoxide and less than 2 parts-per-million nitrogen oxide, according to the company.
