In a follow-up interview with ExecutiveBiz, Dr. Craig Reed, senior vice president of strategy and corporate development, said the realignment intends to fulfill what Engility started to accomplish through its recently completed spin off from L-3 Communications.
Namely, that is to establish the best GovCon industry pure-play services provider that differentiates itself through its deep-rooted efficiencies.
“You hear a lot of people say it takes 12 to 18 months to finish a realignment like this,” Reed told ExecutiveBiz. ”We’re going to do it by the end of the year, which is a testament to our commitment to executing” that plan.
Reed confirmed that John Heller will lead operations and that the four business units will “report up through him.”
Touching on advantages of the realignment, Reed said it is taking a “clean sheet of paper” approach to the new organization, which will allow Engility “to staff out the new organization with the ‘best of the best’” and ensure that employees working in related areas are able to work with one another to develop competitive offerings for its customers.
“The realignment eliminates stovepipes that existed previously in the organization,” he said.
There will be a variety of challenges to overcome before the end of the year, Reed noted, but said customers and employees will benefit from the rapid realignment following the spinoff and the cost efficiencies that will result.
