In-Q-Tel is investing in 10gen, a company that develops an open source document-oriented database aiming to help enterprises deliver, scale and operate applications for big data.
According to IQT, the companies want the partnership to align 10gen’s MongoDB platform with U.S. intelligence community missions and requirements.
IQT added 10gen to its strategic investment portfolio because MongoDB stores and queries both unstructured and structured data, said Robert Ames, vice president of information and communication technologies.
Ames added MongoDB could lead to development of new storage and processing technologies.
IQT says MongoDB stores data in documents using schemas instead of tables and rows.
Enterprises in the telecommunications, financial services, media, government and technology sectors use MongoDB to store application data.
