Northrop, Brazilian Firm Partner to Develop Border Security Tech; Ed Bush Comments

Northrop Grumman has signed a teaming agreement with a Brazil-based firm to develop security technologies for that country’s border monitoring system, Northrop announced Monday.

Northrop and Flight Technologies Sistemas S/A will design a system comprised of land-based radars, communications systems and unmanned aerial systems for detecting smuggling, terrorism and drug trafficking activities on Brazil’s borders.

Flight Technologies and Northrop have previously collaborated to develop technologies for C4ISR (command, control, communications, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance), said Ed Bush, vice president for C4ISR networked systems at Northrop.

Nei Brasil, co-founder and president of Flight Technologies, said the company wants to leverage its partnership with Northrop to expand its portfolio of locally-developed products and systems for C4ISR, unmanned aerial systems and avionics systems.

Some contractors have recently announced business investments and other related activity in Brazil, with Boeing set to open an aerospace research facility and Siemens planning to invest up to $1 billion in research and development.
