A mobile transportation app developed by Cubic Transportation Systems and NXP Semiconductors N.V. has won a SESAMES Award, which the company says recognizes innovation in the smart technologies industry.
The Mobile Point of Sale application is for transit operators, mobile operators, the payment source and the transit rider or payment account holder to use their personal mobile phones for topping-up contactless transit fare cards.
“Cubic and NXP have a long history of collaboration on contactless fare programs with the majority of Cubic’s installed contactless systems using various generations of NXP technology for contactless ticketing solutions,” said Steve Shewmaker, president of CTS.
He added in a release near-field technology is becoming common in mobile phones and smart handsets.
According to Cubic, the application qualified for the award through its integration of authentication and encryption technologies, wireless mobile networks, Cubic’s cloud-based payment server, NXP-developed NFC technology and the Internet.
The app gives users fare card loading without exposing the security keys and fare algorithms to the device, Cubic said.
