Boeing-Sikorsky Team to Pursue Army Chopper Program

BoeingLogoBoeing and United Technologies Corp.’s Sikorsky aircraft unit are partnering to develop a multi-mission helicopter for the U.S. Army, Reuters reports.

Andrea Shalal-Esa writes the companies plan to give the Army a joint proposal for the branch’s technology demonstration project, aimed at acquiring design plans for a new helicopter.

The Defense Department wants to replace more than 4,000 medium-lift helicopters and this Army program will act as an initial phase for the Pentagon’s Future Vertical Lift program, according to the report.SikorskyLogo

Boeing and Sikorsky will compete to build and fly one or more demonstrator aircraft in 2017 for evaluation under the FVL program, Shalal-Esa writes.

Sikorsky partners with Lockheed Martin on the MH-60 helicopter for the Navy and that team is collaborating on a new search-and-rescue helicopter for the Air Force, according to Reuters.
