Healthcare Provider Horizon Runs Mental Ilness, Drug Recovery Programs

Buffalo, N.Y.-based nonprofit Horizon Health Services is a provider of fully integrated mental health and chemical dependency treatment and recovery services, with 20 outpatient programs serving Erie, Niagara and Genesee counties in New York.

The 50-bed inpatient Horizon Village facility operates in Niagara County, where a veterans treatment facility will soon be completed.

Horizon’s primary care and wellness center, adjacent to Horizon Village, offers medical, psychiatric and recreational services to all campus residents.

This year marks the fifth consecutive year Horizon has been named one of the “40 Best Companies to Work for in New York” by the New York State Society for Human Resource Management and Business First’s “Best Place to Work.

Horizon clients receive assessments of behavior health and other attributes, and then professional teams develop and implement treatment plans such as individual and group counseling and psychiatric assessments.

Clients also receive help to obtain education, work and housing, while homeless individuals receive permanent supportive housing from Horizon.

The corporation participates in drug court diversion programs in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Amherst, Lockport and Cheektowaga as it aims to help re-integrate participants into the community.

Other collaborations with state criminal justice entities include:

  • Providing transitional case management services at the Buffalo Mental Health Court;
  • Working collaboratively in providing services to Erie County Probationers at the offices of the Erie County Department of Probation; and
  • Maintaining working relationships with NYS Parole and County Probation representatives.

The Horizon Corporations, including Horizon Health Services, Horizon Village, and Health Management Group, share a common mission to provide behavioral and medical treatment, rehabilitative and recovery services to persons with mental illness and chemical dependency.

According to Horizon, it is the largest provider of mental health and chemical dependency treatment and recovery services.
