Siemens AG has won a $1.3 million contract with the Canastota Board of Education in New York to upgrade the district’s school facilities and enact energy efficiency measures, OneidaDispatch.com reported Wednesday.
Nick Will writes that work under the energy performance contract will start at the Roberts Street School, where the company will update the media center and:
- replace steam boilers and traps
- insulate valves and pipes
- update coolers and vending machines
The school additionally plans to install solar panels to help generate free electricity and will upgrade other schools’ lighting and building envelopes in the district.
According to the report, the Canastota district is looking to leverage the work to save as much as $70,000 a year from its energy expenses over the next next two decades.
