Carolyn Brownawell is the human resources director at MITRE Corp., where she oversees HR business partner and recruiting operations and the integrating of efforts and activities within the HR management team.
She also helps the board of trustees’ compensation committee manage executive compensation programs.
ExecutiveBiz spoke with Brownawell in December 2012 on her role at the nonprofit corporation and on how she aims to help MITRE acquire and retain talent.

The 24-year company veteran previously served as director of compensation, benefits and HR information systems and held other HR management and staff capacities.
Before joining Mitre, she worked in compensation for Fidelity Investments and Zayre Corp. in the Boston area.
She holds an M.B.A. from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College. She has attended the Harvard Business School’s strategic HR management program and an HR leadership development program at the Center for Creative Leadership.
Brownawell is a Certified Compensation Professional and served on the board of directors at the New England Employee Benefits Council from 1990 to 1998.
