General Dynamics‘ information technology unit will open a second call center in Hattiesburg, Miss. and intends to create more than 1,000 new jobs there, the Hattiesburg American reported Thursday.

Haskel Burns writes the company announced at a press conference Thursday the Cloverleaf Center-based call centers will support the company’s contracts with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Marcus Collier, senior vice president of the company’s health and civilian solutions division, said the center is scheduled to open Oct. 1 and hiring will start in late summer, Burns reports.

Collier also said the center will be part of a nationwide network intended to handle 55 million independent inquiries.

Agents will answer customer questions via 1-800-Medicare and support other contracts, Burns reports.
