Northrop Grumman Corp. has received the 2013 Community Partner of the Year award from the San Diego County School Boards Association for supporting the school’s science, technology, engineering and math program.
The award aims to recognize organizations within the San Diego County school district that contribute time and financial resources to local schools, according to a Northrop Grumman statement.
Jim Zortman, sector vice president and site manager of Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, said students, teachers, administrators and Northrop Grumman employee volunteers have worked together to support programs that is meant to benefit students.
In 2004, Northrop kicked off the high school involvement partnership in San Diego and helped 215 high school seniors graduate from the 17-week program.
Northrop Grumman also supports Project Lead the Way, FIRST Robotics, Space Camp and the High School Innovation Challenge.
