DRS to Build AF ICBM Transporter Vehicles; Roger Sexauer Comments

DRS logoDRS Technologies has won a potential $92 million order from the U.S. Air Force to build vehicles intended to handle inter-continental ballistic missiles at launch sites in the country.

The contract has a $25 million base value for two vehicles and will reach its full value if the company delivers 26 units through 2019, DRS said Wednesday.

An evaluation of the first two vehicle designs is scheduled for November 2015.

Roger Sexauer, DRS president of power and environmental systems, said the company has designed and built mobile shelters and transport trailers for the military over 40 years.

Sexauer added the company has supported the Air Force’s ICBM program for two decades.

DRS says the Air Force Global Strike Command requires the vehicle to function through 2030.

Transporter erector vehicles that support Minuteman III booster launches operate at facilities in Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, Utah and California.
