A maritime patrol aircraft EADS North America built for the U.S. Coast Guard has won the Acquisition Program of the Year award from the Department of Homeland Security.
DHS recognized the HC-144A Ocean Sentry plane for working to help the Coast Guard mitigate risk and manage shared processes, EADS North America said Friday.
The HC-144A maritime patrol aircraft is derived from Airbus Military‘s CN235 tactical airlifter and is currently used in 29 countries.
Coast Guard representatives accepted the award during an event held Thursday in Washington.
HC-144A planes are designed to fly in the air over more than 10 hours for anti-drug, disaster response and search-and-rescue missions.
