Exelis to Build Lockheed F-35 Blade Seal Components

F35ITT Exelis has won a multi-million contract to manufacture components for Lockheed Martin‘s F-35 fighter jet in support of low rate initial production contracts for all variants through 2015.

Lockheed selected Exelis to build the composite blade seal components needed to assemble the planes, Exelis said Monday.

Exelis will process the orders and produce the seals at its new composite design and manufacturing center in Salt Lake City.

The contracts cover low rate initial production lots six and seven.

BAE Systems, a partner in the F-35 program, selected Canadian firm Magellan Aerospace to produce the horizontal wing for the jet under an agreement signed in Paris this week.
