Exelis to Install Australian Port's Comm System; Peter Harrison Comments

Exelis LogoExelis‘ C4i business unit has won a contract from Australian Maritime Systems to provide an interoperable communications system to the Port of Darwin for maritime operations and personnel management.

The Exelis SwitchplusIP system will provide vessel traffic services personnel a single touchscreen device to access port procedures, radios and telephones, Exelis said Monday.

SwitchplusIP is intended to help Port employees integrate legacy and modern equipment via voice over Internet Protocol on mobile or land-based devices.

Peter Harrison, Exelis C4i business managing director, said Darwin joins Sydney, Dampier and Townsville in the list of Australian ports to use Exelis C4i technology.

Darwin, also known as the “Gateway to Asia,” is located in Australia’s Northern Territory and used for agriculture, tourism, construction, mining and horticulture.
