Autodesk Launches Building Layout Software and Applications; Amar Hanspal Comments

AutodeskLogoAutodesk has rolled out a new platform that works to automate architectural points in computer-aided design and building information modeling applications.

The company recently acquired the technology assets of Get The Point for an undisclosed sum in a move aimed at growing Autodesk’s construction software portfolio, Autodesk said Wednesday.

Point Layout is intended to help contractors identify building components and relay point data to robotic total station hardware systems.

“Connecting the digital model to the physical site is a key step in achieving efficiency and accuracy on the job site and across all aspects of the project,” said Amar Hanspal, Autodesk senior vice president of information modeling and platform products.

According to the company, point layout can help improve productivity on site when combined with the cloud-based BIM 360 field management platform.

Nick Kurth, virtual construction manager at PCL Construction, said the company achieved cost savings by using Autodesk technology.
