Inmarsat will provide data communications support to a student team from the University of Michigan for a solar-powered car race in October across the Australian outback, Satnews Daily reported Wednesday.
The university is one of 28 teams in the 2013 World Solar Challenge and Inmarsat will give the team access to its 3G Internet service through a broadband global area network, according to the report.
Satcom Direct will equip the student team with Cobham-built satellite broadband terminals, Satnews Daily reports.
Inmarsat aims for its network to share information about weather forecasts, road conditions and vehicle performance during the racing competition, the article says.
Cobham and Inmarsat will also work to install a mobile satellite connectivity system into a Dutch team’s solar vehicle.
