Six IT Firms Help Intermountain Healthcare Open R&D Lab

healthcare itSix information technology companies have collaborated with Intermountain Healthcare to establish a research and development laboratory for the healthcare sector..

The Healthcare Transformation Lab aims to bring new technologies and innovations to practical use by working with the partner companies, Intermountain Healthcare said Tuesday.

CenturyLink, DellIntelNetApp, Sotera Wireless and Xi3 are partners in the lab.

Lab workers are tasked to design, create and test prototypes of the technologies with the help of Intermountain employees and the partner organizations.

Intermountain Healthcare said projects already underway include wireless vital signs monitoring, three-dimensional printing of medical devices and equipment, a mobile life detector and a wearable hand-hygiene sensor.

The Healthcare Transformation Lab is co-located with the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, which is led by Marc Probst, Intermountain’s chief information officer.
