Dell has been selected as a recipient of an award given by the Environmental Protection Agency to companies that work to help grow the voluntary green power market and purchase green power.
Green Power Leadership Awards recognize companies that acquire energy from a utility green-pricing program, a competitive green marketer or a renewable energy certificate supplier, Dell said Monday.
Eight organizations in the U.S. were chosen for this year’s awards.
“The use of renewable energy has been an important part of Dell’s sustainability programs since 2003, and an integral part of our commitment to powering the possible,” said Dane Parker, Dell vice president of global facilities and EHS.
Dell purchases 218 million kilowatt-hours of green power per year, around 48 percent of the company’s electricity use in the U.S.
The EPA estimates Dell’s current green power purchase amount as equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions of nearly 32,000 passenger vehicles per year, Dell says.
