Iridium, Blackline to Launch Wearable Tracker; Bryan Hartin, Cody Slater Comment

iridium logo Iridium Communications and Blackline GPS have partnered to provide web-enabled safety devices and offerings to enterprises seeking to step up their employee safety monitoring systems.

The collaboration has resulted in the Loner 900, a wearable safety system equipped with a vehicle tracker and compact base station that includes Iridium’s satellite communication technology, Blackline GPS said Tuesday.

According to Bryan Hartin, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Iridium, there is a growing need for employee safety solutions for businesses that send workers to isolated areas.

The Iridium solution can be an alternative to user call-in systems and simple tracking devices and is intended for man-down situations in industries such as manufacturing, utilities, transportation and oil and gas.

“Companies today face the challenge of responding to the needs of field employees working in remote areas, beyond cellular networks,” said Cody Slater, CEO and Chairman of Blackline GPS.

“Instant, automated and real-time safety alerting to monitoring personnel will empower a pinpoint emergency response for both employees and safety supervisors,” he added.
